MilesTed Talk:
http://bit.ly/miles-self-dr iving-cars Paragraph: I chose this video, because I believe that automated cars will be one of the most important technologies in the next fifty, or even twenty years. As discussed in the video, many people are killed every year in car crashes, and most of them are due to human error. Google currently has the most advanced cars in this category. KC“Phantom pain”
In the video Ramachandran explains that if you have a paralyzed arm(he refers to it as a phantom), you can be able to move your paralyzed arm again by watching the reflection of it in a mirror. He tells the patient to move his normal arm and his phantom arm at the same time. When he does this his phantom arm moves again but when the patient closes his eyes he can only move his normal arm. After practicing looking in the reflection of the mirror the patient was able to unlearn the paralysis and could move his arm with out the mirror. This proves Ramachandran’s learned theory of paralysis. This relates to science because the brain is faced with tremendous sensory conflict and it’s getting messages from the patients vision telling him the phantom is back. Muscle signals are telling the brain that there is no arm there, while the patients motor skills are saying there is an arm there. Because of this conflict going on, the brain negates the signals and says there is no arm there, and when the arm disappears so does the pain. Science refers to the body of reliable knowledge itself, of the type that can be logically and rationally explained. 14:17 - 17:27 http://www.ted.com/talks/vilayanur_ramachandran_on_your_mind.html Reynahttp://www.ted.com/talks/aaron_koblin.html
0.00-3.55 Artfully visualizing our humanity What is really cool about this is Mr. Koblin gets a lot of data and presents it in a cool artistic visual way. He also takes pieces of things and gets something similar to the first product but each piece is a bit different. It relates to science because one can learn much more with a visual presentation as well as an audio one too. His data presentations can calculate ebb and flow of plane traffic and many other things. This form of presentation can expand peoples learning and quickly develop other ways of learning to improve technology. Also the programming of software and digital components also include the process of computer science, computer language, and computer programming. This ted talk talks about the importance of technology in healthcare. The presenter Eric Topol talks about different ways to improve patient care and efficiency for doctors. He talks about the airstrip technology which monitors heart rate, and allows doctors in intensive care units to monitor patients on the go. The importance of medical technology allows patient care to be improved. He talks about the different applications that are used to monitor different aspects of the body. He talks about an application that you ware that monitors your glucose and cholesterol. He talks about applications to measure diabetes. There are thousands of medical applications to track obesity, mental illness, neurologic disorders, orthopedics, sexual health, and heart disease. This video talks about how technology is changing or health and science. http://www.ted.com/talks/eric_topol_the_wireless_future_of_medicine.html KAIhttp://www.ted.com/talks/mitchell_joachim_don_t_build_your_home_grow_it.html
Eat your dinner and live in it too. There isn't much to say besides what's already been said in the video. Houses made of plants would have a massive positive impact on our environment. Not only do they absorb carbon dioxide, but they would greatly reduce our dependence on materials such as plywood, which means less trees getting cut down.Another thing he talks about is synthesized meat that can be used to create handbags, shoes, leather belts, etc. without harming animals in the process. It can also be used to grow meat houses, which are also really cool. SARAHHere is the WONDERFUL link to my video: http://www.ted.com/talks/gabe_zichermann_how_games_make_kids_smarter.htmlI only want 9:37-12:46
And here is the paragraph: Gabe Zichermann explains that Generation G will be a generation that will be more game based than any other generation. Kids these days are expected to multitask with so many different things while playing video games. With the level they start out wit, they will gain knowledge and use that knowledge for the next level and onto the next. Could we really use this strategy for real life problems? Parents and teachers these days often refer to video games as a leisure. Not only is it for amusement but it builds up our IQ. In this video Gabs asks, "Do kids these days have short attention spans, or does the world just move too slow?" GenevaStart at 00: 16 - 3: 28.
http://www.ted.com/talks/ramesh_raskar_a_camera_that_takes_one_trillion_frames_per_second.html This TED Talk Video is about how today, cameras can see videos in a trillion frames per second. This talk was presented by Ramesh Raskar. He talks about how 50 years ago, we did not have this technology and ability to view things in a trillion frames per second. Now, in 2012, we do have that ability. It talks about how in the future, cameras might be able to look around corners and see inside a human body without an X-ray. The video shows how light moves in slow motion and how if you turn a laser pointer on and off at a certain speed, the light would travel at about the speed of light. Sophie13:32-17:50
Don Tapscott: Four principles for the open world | Video on TED.com This video is related to science because it shows how humans and there brains can create a thing known as the internet. And how that other people can think of ways to use the internet to help one another. It shows how since social networking is to all of the public that people wanting to help one another can. Instead of just chatting on the Social Network they make plans for protests or group gatherings. People have evolved to use the internet to share knowledge to one another and instead of just a person gaining that knowledge you can also spread you knowledge of what you know to others. The people that created the internet which were scientists helped people all over the world to share what they know and to gain what others know as well. |

11:55 – End This is a video about Mathemagics! Mathemagics is a way to do math that surprises and makes people stand in awe about the calculations, by mixing the love of math and magic together. This relates to science by showing a man of his brain type and thought type work out a massive problem that most normal calculators cannot do. Remember, this man can calculate much faster than he is talking, but is slowing down for the sake of the audience, and to show how he works out the massive equations. Enjoy the Mathemagics! JillianI found this video and I find this very interesting. It is about how beetles adapt and deal with their food and stuff. They sit on top of their food and look straight out into the sun because the sun has a huge affect on how they work and where they are trying to get their food. They need sunlight to be able to see where they are going. They have a very hard time seeing things in dark so they work way better in sun and connect with the rays of the sun in order to work I think it is very interesting and i hope the kids find it interesting too.

(from 2:25 to 5:15) This TEDtalks video talks about a smart thermo-bimetal which acts similarly to human skin. The bimetal is a combination of two different metals. The thermo-bimetal is used as a heating and cooling pad. We humans shiver when were cold and sweat when we are hot. It's similar to it. As the temperature rises, the metal then curls. When the temperature goes down, the metal then straightens out back to the original shape. Layering the metals can create the "human skin effect." As heat comes through the metal, it opens up, letting hot air pass and when it gets cooler, the bimetal then closes back up, trapping the hot air. This metal is now used in modern architecture because of it's usability. It's great for the environment and can also be used as a shade too. It's a eco-friendly product which we can benefit greatly from and also is a great examples of how the human skin works. Michellehttp://www.ted.com/talks/jeff_hancock_3_types_of_digital_lies.html
From 1:24 to 4:34 This video is about the fact that we lie on the internet for personal reasons. Many people believe that when we lie on the internet we are protecting ourselves but there is also this other flip side to the situation. How also internet such as social network really show our true personality. This was also looked into about the online dating sites. Everyone lies by a little bit on the online. We usually do not want to expose our selves to online communication but we also want to describe ourselves as different. There is this fine balance where we lie subtly so that we seem similar to our description online yet we are also lying. This is related to science because the fact that we lie is all in our heads. If we did not have the need or want to lie, we would not be doing it anyways but we are. The science is the people or the fear or chemicals in our mind that start kicking in when we put ourselves out onto the world. This is when our bodies tell us to do things to protect ourselves and to present ourselves differently. Emma8:35 to 10:57
http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_gilbert_asks_why_are_we_happy.html This video is about how the human mind can create happiness that is just as real as natural happiness. We are able to take situations we are stuck with and make them seem better in our minds. An example of this from the video is that after a year, newly paralyzed people are often as happy as people who won the lottery because the paraplegic people make the situation better in their minds. This video is related to science because it is about the human anatomy and how the human brain works. It shows one incredible way the human brain allows people to feel. Andy |

This video is some pyshics and sex ed with the way the water moves around in the condom and that a condom can stretch really far when filled with stuff SamThis is a video that illustrates a heart attack due to a blockage in the coronary artery. The blockages occur when plaque blocks the artery. When the artery is blocked blood flow is stopped to the heart muscle, and that causes a heart attack. Coronary artery blockage is usually treated by giving the patient blood thinners or through angioplasty which is a surgical procedure to unblock the artery.
SarahHave you ever seen anything come back to life? Frankenstein does not count because he is not real, but on the other hand, this amazing North American Wood Frog has a power that no other animal does. This little critter from Southern Ohio and up to the Arctic Circle has the ability to come back to life from the frozen death, until Spring. How does this work? Can it do it multiple times? This video will answer the question of why and how does this super frog use its powers. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEa3_mlCX9g
KaiViruses can't replicate on their own. In order to reproduce, viruses basically have to highjack a cell and uses it to make copies of itself. I think it's fascinating how our immune systems can take care of a virus that can make millions and millions of replications of itself. I chose viruses because I find it interesting how they work, and its relevant to cells. - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rpj0emEGShQ
ReynaThe Komodo Dragon is the largest lizard in the world.
It has bacteria in it's mouth that can kill an animal days later. After it's prey dies the dragon will feast on the dead caracas. The kimono dragon can smell dead things from kilometers away. The Komodo Dragon's top speed is 12 miles per hour. The Komodo Dragon only needs to kill their prey with a single bite. The Komodo Dragon's tongue samples molecule and brings it to the Jacobson's organ. This organ can detect where a dead animal lies and how it got there. - http://youtu.be/VBxFj5s_hyk MilesGenevaI chose this video because it shows the size of the universe and the various things inside. I really enjoy space, so I chose this video. The video starts at the outskirts of the universe and works it's way in from the largest to smallest things inside. The smallest measurement is 0.0000000001 yoctometers. It has to do with science because it gives a visual idea of some of the things in the universe.
SophieI think that this is a scientific video because it shows you how damaging rabies is to the brain. It shows how much it can change what you can control and it shows how bad and dangerous it is. It is scientific because it shows you how your brain can easily disappear with a disease. Also it shows you what happens before you die from rabies.
CaseyThe Brain is a very fascinating part of the human for me. It has many parts and is the most important part of the body in my perspective. Its made up of many things but also has many cells called Glia. The three special cells are called oligodendrocytes, microglia, and astrocytes. These parts optimize brain function. Cells are practically everything that we feel, see and touch. I chose this video to show how amazing the brain is in a fun and entertaining way.

SharonThis talks about addiction and how addiction can do to your brain. I always wonder why do I get addicted. This is related to science because it talks about how natural drugs in our body called dopamine which makes us feel good. But what drugs do is that it uses up the dopamine quickly in our brain. It takes awhile for the natural drug to regenerate. But if the dopamine is gone, the person starts to take more of the substance. That's the being of an addict. It's scary to see how much people becomes depress and maybe even dies from this.

This video relates to science because it is about how the sun shines. It goes through the basics on how hydrogen is turned into helium at a temperature of millions of degrees. It also lists off some basic facts about the sun (e.g. how far away it is, how big it is, etc.)- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KDOkGx1gAZQ EricHave you ever heard of The Cinnamon Challenge? It is simple: put a spoonful of ground cinnamon into your mouth and try to swallow it. Seems easy, right? Actually, it’s not, and the reason is all about the science. This video will show you why ninety-nine out of a hundred people can’t do it.
EmmaThis video relates to science because it is a great example of how animals survive in nature. Stoats, a type of weasel, live in many different parts of the world. They have figured out how to feed on the larger animals despite their smaller size, and this accomplishment is phenomenal. They are small, but they are fierce predators. They play when they are young, and when they get older, they will use these skills to hunt. Their natural behavior is an interesting and important part of science.
JillianStress and Exercise.
Dance makes you feel healthy and builds friendships. Dance can help you manage stress, which helps you become healthy a number of ways. One, it is excellent exercise. Fitness strengthens your heart and builds muscle. Reduces artery-clogging fat. Fitness also reduces stress. Stress effects our body and can make it gain weight by changing our hormones, also makes you break out! Dance is a great way to stay healthy, and happy. AndySchrödinger's cat is showing a problem in quantum physics known as the SuperPostion. Schrödinger's cat by itself is just a metaphor to explain the SuperPostion. And as you will see, it is when something is in both states at once. But we cannot see it. Our looking, forced nature’s decision of choosing one or the other outcome.
ChrisThis relates to science because it is showing what do just about every night. As you will see, theories on dreams are very different. Because of the fluctuating theories, we still have little to no idea of why we have dreams. Even then, it’s good to know that we have at least SOME type of idea what’s going on.
And as always, thanks for watching. ZannieThe basilisk lizard (AKA the jesus christ lizard) can run on water, which is an adaptation to catch prey and avoid predators. All organisms main goal is to survive and reproduce, this is called fitness. All organisms seek to increase there fitness which improves the number of there genes that make it into the next generation, supporting the success of the species!
