GOAL: To understand how traits are
passed between parent and offspring and the influence of genes (genotype) on
the physical form (phenotype). Students will look at their own form, deduce
their genotypes from their own features and see what they are most likely to
pass onto their own offspring. Students use morththing.com to combine their face with their mates and then print the picture in black and white so that they can color in the baby and adult versions according to what they concluded while analyzing their own genes and studying inheritance. PROCESS:
Examine your own traits,
Deduce your most likely genotype
Ask parents and see if you can identify their influence
Flip a coin to see what allele you pass to your offspring
Pick a "mate" in class
Combine your alleles
Conclude the babies genotype
NOW THE FUN BEGANS - Use s face blending softwear to blend faces.
Use the same program to see what your child would look like
Print both pics in black and white and then color them in according to what you found from the genes that both parents contributed to the offspring.
